Ingredients
- 4 medium red apples
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2/3 cup (160ml) sugar
- 1 lemon
- 10oz (300g) frozen puff pastry (defrosted)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 390°F (200°C) or to the recommended baking temperature for your frozen puff pastry.
- Peel the skin off the apples then use an apple slicer to slice them and remove the cores.
- Place the apple slices in a bowl, juice the lemon over the apples, toss, and set aside.
- In a cold 10" (25cm) cast iron skillet, add the sugar, cinnamon sticks, and apples. Arrange the apples so they're spiraling around and look nice.
- Turn on the heat to medium-high and cook the apples, without stirring, about 15 minutes until the sugar becomes golden brown.
- While the apples are cooking, roll out the puff pastry into a circle the size of the skillet.
- Once the apples are done remove it from the heat and put the puff pastry ontop.
- With the back of a fork, push the edges of the pastry down into the apples covering them like a blanket.
- With a knife, poke three holes in the top of the pastry.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Wearing oven mitts, remove from the oven and invert onto a plate. Rearrange the apples as necessary so it looks nice again.
