Ingredients
- 1 pound (.5 kg) 80/20 ground beef (or beef/veal/pork blend)
- 1 cup (250ml) plain breadcrumbs
- 1 cup (250ml) milk
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) salt
- 3 teaspoons (15ml) dried Italian seasoning
- 1/4 cup (60ml) grated pecorino romano cheese (or parmesan)
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) black pepper
- 1 egg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine breadcrumbs, milk, salt, italian seasoning, cheese, pepper.
- Let sit for 5 minutes.
- Taste mixture and adjust seasoning as you see fit. It may already be slightly salty but the final product will have less salt once you add the meat.
- Combine egg into mix.
- Add ground beef and mix thoroughly with your hands, but not too long. The mixture will feel kind of soft - this is normal.
- Form golf ball sized balls and place onto a greased baking sheet. You should get roughly 16.
- Place in the oven and bake for approximatley 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes turn on your broiler and put the meatballs under the broiler turning every 5 minutes until you get the brown color you're looking for.
- Serve as is or transfer into some red sauce for meatballs and pasta.
